Move-Out Cleaning and Getting Your Deposit Back

2026-05-19 3 min read By Dirty2Clean

Moving day ends with everything in a truck and a place that looks empty. Empty is not the same as clean, and the gap between them is usually what a deposit dispute is about.

The places that cost people money are predictable. Inside the oven and under the burners. The fridge, including the seals and the drip tray. Inside kitchen cabinets and drawers — landlords open them. Bathroom grout, the extractor fan, and the ring around the base of the toilet. Baseboards, window tracks, and the marks left on walls where furniture stood for three years. None of these show while your belongings are in the way, and all of them show the moment the room is bare.

The other half is timing. A move-out clean has to happen after everything is out and before the walkthrough, which is often a window of hours rather than days. Trying to do it yourself at the end of a moving day, with no equipment left unpacked, is how the awkward jobs get skipped.

If you're on the other side of it — moving in — the same clean matters for a different reason. Someone else lived there, and a proper deep clean before your furniture arrives is the only easy chance you'll get to reach behind and under everything.
